Whether you’re moving from another space or are setting up for the first time, it can be difficult to know what you need. You might be a brand-new business or one that’s been around for a lifetime, but no matter how long you’ve been operating for, getting your office space right can really help you to succeed.

Location, location, location

Where you set up your base is more important than you might think. Whether you have a warehouse operation or not, you’ll need to make sure your location is accessible by multiple means. This could be for your employees and workforce or delivery drivers and couriers – either way they’ll all need to be able to find where you are without any problems.

It’s also wise to ensure you have some good transport links too, as not everyone who works for you will have a car. Being close to rail and bus services can help you to attract more employees than you might think. Not only that, but for those employees that do drive, having ample parking spaces will really make a difference!

Setting up your space

Now that you’ve got your location nailed, let’s talk about your actual office space. You’ll need a whole range of supplies, from static or multi-purpose desks and chairs to storage solutions and a relaxing break out area for employees to head to on their breaks.

You’ll also need to make sure your space is appropriately lit so that people are working in a comfortable environment. If you need to do a spot of DIY to get this right then don’t panic! It’s easy to install new electrical points with hole saws, and set up circuits for sockets and lights, as long as you have all the right tools. Whether you do this yourself or hire a contractor, making sure your space is set up correctly so technology can work efficiently is vital!

Keeping connected

Speaking of technology, you’ll also need to make sure your space is well connected. Having a business telephone line is a great way to ensure your customers and clients can reach you. You’ll also need to get additional phones and lines set up for your employees, as you may have teams such as customer service and complaints. Why not shop around for a supplier to see if you can save money on your provider.

Your IT framework

On top of your telephone system, you’ll also want to think carefully about your IT framework. Think carefully about your server provider as they’ll need to be reliable and on hand if anything happens. You’ll also need to make sure you space has a server room, which will allow all of your servers and cables to be tucked away neatly.

With so much to think about when it comes to setting up your office space, we know it can seem overwhelming. But, by following these simple steps when thinking about what you need, you’ll be up and running in no time!
