Most of us strive to be healthy, and yet we often fail when it comes to what foods we eat. The problem is that many of us have an all-or-nothing mindset. We think that if we have one unhealthy meal, we’ve failed. So, we go back to eating unhealthily.

Look into the nutritional value of things

We often think of things being either healthy or unhealthy, and we view all foods in those categories as being the same.

For example, many people view oil as being unhealthy. And while it can be, if consumed in excess, oil isn’t necessarily bad. And not all oils are the same. Some oils contain more nutrients than others. Some may harm your cholesterol more than others.

Eat more vegetables

Another mistake that many people make is trying to be healthier by cutting unhealthy foods out of their diets. If you’ve ever tried doing this, you will know how hard it is.

A much easier way to make healthier choices is to focus not on eliminating more unhealthy foods, but rather on adding more healthy foods. Think about it: if you eat more vegetables, you are already making a healthier choice. And an added bonus is that if you are filled up with healthy things, you will be less likely to reach for unhealthy items. Opt for lean protein

We all know that protein is an important part of a healthy diet, but once again, not all proteins are created equally.

Some proteins may have a much higher fat content and less protein, whereas lean protein refers to a protein that contains less fat and more protein. As you can imagine, this is often the healthier choice.

Minimize your processed food intake

Let’s face it: processed food is often the most convenient option, which is why we reach for it when we’re in a hurry.

And while there’s nothing wrong with a candy bar or some takeout now and then, it shouldn’t make up the majority of your diet. The easiest way to minimize how much processed food you consume is to meal prep. This way, if you’re running late, you don’t need to worry about making food, because it will already be done. This makes it much less tempting to reach for an overly processed option.
