Globe myBusiness, the micro, small, and medium enterprise arm of Globe Telecom, recently held a data privacy awareness workshop for SMEs in the finance sector, specifically cooperatives, to help them improve their data security.
The event was in partnership with the North East Luzon Credit Cooperative League (NELCCO) and the National Association of Data Protection Officers (NADPOP). Carlos “Titus” Manuel, Founding Chairman of the NADPOP, facilitated the training for cooperative executives from Ilocos and Cagayan Valley regions where he talked about the Data Privacy Act of 2012 and helpful digital solutions such as data storage and cybersecurity.
The Data Privacy Act of 2012 institutionalized the guidelines for protecting sensitive customer information. However, many financial SMEs remain ill-equipped to protect customer data due to continuous use of manual and paper-based documentation to manage forms and important documents. This practice increases the risk of mistakes and loss via theft, disasters, and negligence.
“In order to comply with the guidelines of the Data Privacy Act, it is imperative for finance SMEs to improve their safekeeping and data security methods. This is something that may sound complicated or expensive, but fortunately, today’s technology offers various products and solutions that cater specifically to keeping data secure,” said Jaya Aberin, Finance Industry Manager.
Still, finance SMEs such as cooperatives may find themselves struggling to understand how the technology works, which technology is best for them, and at what point in their business journey they should adopt these digital strategies.
Thus, Aberin said that Globe myBusiness can aid MSMEs by hand-holding them through every stage of their business journey. With products and solutions from the world’s best digital creators tailor-fit to each MSME, Globe myBusiness makes it a point to find the right suite of solutions to address their particular needs.
But, more than a solutions provider, she said that Globe myBusiness aims to be recognized as the MSME’s true business partner by keeping them updated on the latest market trends, news, and business tips for their industries.
At the end of the workshop, attendees took an online assessment to get their certification of participation which is a requirement by the National Privacy Commission (NPC). Results of the assessment will be shared to the cooperative’s General Managers or CEOs with recommendations on the succeeding training modules their employees can take.
With the success of the event, Globe myBusiness will conduct more workshops around the country to reach out to more financial MSMEs.
