Taguig City, 13 January 2025 – Tackling climate change and bridging the digital divide, Pru Life UK has partnered with leading climate health technology start-up Humble Sustainability to redefine the future of electronic waste.

Through the principles of a circular economy, the partnership showcases how sustainability can create lasting social impact while protecting the planet.

As part of this pioneering collaboration, Pru Life UK’s unused company IT assets will be brought back into circularity by undergoing Humble’s reselling program with its extensive network of buyers. In its first month of the partnership, Pru Life UK has generated over Php 240K from its revenue share and is expecting additional batches of IT assets in the coming months along with devices and equipment donated by its employees. All proceeds from the sale will supplement the purchase of electronic devices to be donated to the company’s chosen community madrasahs (Islamic schools) in Mindanao as part of its Adopt-a-Madrasah programme.

Pru Life UK earlier piloted this programme in Davao City as part of its efforts to develop priority interventions for teachers and students in the community. This community investment initiative is part of a larger goal to support the Takaful operations launched by Pru Life UK in November of last year.

The initiative with Humble Sustainability not only helps to minimise electronic waste but also bridges the digital divide by empowering underserved communities with access to technology, enhancing opportunities for education and connectivity.

Atty. Paul Mandal, Senior Vice President & Chief Legal, Government Relations and Sustainability Officer at Pru Life UK, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, saying:

“Our collaboration with Humble Sustainability reflects our commitment to creating meaningful change by addressing two critical issues: electronic waste and the digital divide. By embracing a circular economy approach, we can contribute to a healthier planet while also improving lives through digital access and inclusion.”

Humble Sustainability, driven by its mission to bring one billion items back into circularity, aligns closely with Pru Life UK’s vision of a greener and more equitable future. Through its innovative approach, Humble Sustainability not only prevents e-waste from ending up in landfills but also creates sustainable livelihoods for local recyclers and refurbishers, fostering responsible consumption and production practices.

Together, Pru Life UK and Humble Sustainability aim to inspire individuals and organisations to adopt environmentally conscious practices while ensuring that technology reaches those who need it most.
