The (TSS) Temporary Skills Shortage visa subclass 482 is available for skilled people who want to work temporarily in Australia. 

The TSS Visa permits you to live and work in Australia for up to 4 years and travel within and outside Australia, depending on your employment and skills. Additionally, it enables your family members to study and work here.

To be qualified for the Temporary Skills Shortage 482 Visa, you must meet several conditions, including being sponsored by an authorized company.

Who can apply for the TSS Visa 482?

To fill a temporary talent gap in Australia, a company or sponsor may give instructions on applying for a visa for a particular position. The following situations call for applying for a 482 visa:

  • If a person changes employers and is nominated for a job in Australia. 
  • If an individual is selected to work in Australia under the terms of a labor agreement, 
  • If a person is selected to work in Australia by an authorized business sponsor 
  • A relative applying for a 482 visa under the following entrant category wants to visit Australia with the initial visa application.

Requirements for the Employers to sponsor a TSS Visa 482?

Employers who sponsor overseas skilled workers for the TSS visa for a job in Australia must:

  • Maintain a legitimate business. 
  • The company is not linked with any negative information
  • Nominate an international worker for a full-time job. 
  • Meet salary and working conditions requirements. 
  • Provide documentation of labor market testing as needed.

TSS Skills Assessment

For applicants who need a skill evaluation to apply for a TSS 482Visa, there is a TSS Skills Assessment. This skills evaluation examines if you have the knowledge and expertise required to perform your occupation to the level needed in Australia.

For the TSS skills assessment, there are two distinct groups. 

  • Applicants without a qualification from Australia
  • Applicants with VET credentials or an Australian occupational license. 

TSS Skills Assessment – Application Process 

The TSS skills evaluation application process is different for each of its various categories. It is listed below.

For applicants in category 1 (those without an Australian degree or credential):

There are 4 steps in the application process for the TSS skills assessment.

Step 1: Select a certified assessor. The RTO chosen for the skill assessment should have TRA approval (trade recognition Australia).

Step 2:  one must provide all necessary documentation, including degrees, certificates of completion, and proof of employment. Your RTO will advise you with the essential and pertinent paperwork.

 Your allocated RTO will determine if you have the necessary abilities for your nominated occupation based on the provided documentation. If so, you will be forwarded towards the technical assessment in the next step.

Step 3: An expert in your chosen skill whom TRA has approved will assess your skills at this level. They will evaluate your abilities in your chosen field using various techniques, including personal interviews, information gleaned from prior employers and having you demonstrate your proficiency in a simulated environment.

Step 4: Get your assessment results. You can use a favorable outcome when you apply for a skilled visa.

Temporary Skills Shortage 428 Visa streams

Three streams make up the Temporary Skills Shortage 482 Visa, and if you’re applying for a Visa TSS, you must also meet the requirements of the stream you’re applying for.

You may select from the following options to work for your authorized Australian sponsor in your specified occupation:

  • The Labor Agreement TSS Stream
  • The Short-Term TSS Stream
  • The Medium-Term TSS Stream.

The stream you fall into depends on your employer, job, and region. The Skilled Occupations list can be used to choose the job that fits you. If your line of work qualifies you for the short-term visa stream, your 482 visa will be issued for a period of two years. 

Your 482 Visa will only be offered for 4 years if your work allows you for the medium-term visa stream.

How to be eligible for the TSS Visa 482 Australia?

Here are the general criteria for the TSS 482 Visa:

  • You have been nominated for a position by an employer in Australia who wishes to hire you to work for them since your profession is on the Australian Occupations list.
  • You have the required skills and credentials for your line of work.
  • You’ve worked in your profession for at least 2 years.
  • You are proficient in using English professionally.
  • You can meet the DHA’s moral behavior and physical fitness standards.
  • Those who have bridging visa A, B, or C or a substantive visa and have complied with their visa conditions are allowed to stay in Australia.
  • There is no restriction for age on the TSS 482 Visa.

How to apply for a TSS visa 482?

Step 1: Verify the Skilled Occupation Lists to check if your nominated job is listed.

Step 2: Make sure you fulfill all required conditions. All the requirements for the temporary skilled shortage visa have been discussed above.

Step 3:  Find a company that will sponsor you so you can work as an employee in Australia. The Employers can fill out the online employer sponsorship application through the Home Affairs Department.

Step 4: Get an employer nomination.

Once you have a job, you must ask them to recommend you for a TSS visa. When the employer applies to sponsor and selects you for a job, you may apply for a visa simultaneously. Employers fill out the nomination application on the Department’s website online.

Step 5: Submit an application for the TSS Visa.

After submitting the employer nomination form, you can apply for a 457 visa online with the DOHA.

Step 6: Wait for the nomination. 

The DOHA may take many months to decide whether to grant your request for a visa. The TSS visa processing period in 2021 is 11–18 days.

Step 7: Obtain your visa and start employment.

You will receive your visa once your application is approved, and you can begin your journey in Australia.
